Birdee the one armed Cat tamer….

A few weeks back Chevy had told us about a Catfish tournament held on the Ottawa River out of Constance Bay.  Assured us it was a fun day with a great fish fry at days end.  We were game!

Birdee took a nasty tumble playing fastball on Wednesday night before the tournament.  I originally thought her arm was broken.  X-rays revealed deep tissue damage and a few days rest she’d be fine.  Into the sling her arm went and it slowly started to feel better.

Saturday came, we launched and made our run to the area we planned to fish all day.  Birdee had prepared the bait during the week.  It’s a nasty mix of pretty much anything she can find in the cupboard.  A mix of Chicken hearts, livers and some minute steak laced with garlic for scent.  Works every time!

We made a few drifts and within the first two hours we had our limit of 10 Cats on board.  Upgrading ounces at a time was a challenge when they all look alike in the livewell.

We decided to anchor and set lines out in the current and sit and wait.  Well the wait wasn’t long.  Rods were bouncing in the holders within minutes.

Birdee was a trooper.  She would set the hook and hand me the rod to reel in and go tend the other rod.  Must have been funny to watch from a distance.  Lots of handoffs!

Double headers too often….

The day ended with sore backs and elbows yet big smiles.  We made the run back to the weigh in.

And came in second…….to these punks!  Chevy and Mickey for the win!

Birdee and I ended up with some ding to cover our day and pick up a pizza on the way home.  Score!

Great event!  We will be back for sure.
