Drifting up Bronze…..

Big Jim and I decided to hit the mighty St. Lawrence River in search of Bronze aka. Smallmouths!

We set into a few drifts and it didn’t take long for rods to be bent.  I started off drop-shotting a Set the Hook Slap Tail Grub.  With straight 8 lb Fluro to a 5/8ths drop shot weight I was able to get vertical in the 2 mph current.  Jimmy was using his trusty Fergie Spoon!  Man he loves those things!

The feel of the new Crucial drop shot rod is insane.  I can feel how the bottom changes from sand to pebble rock to small boulders.  Plenty of backbone to handle the bronze.

It wasn’t long before we were giggling and netting each others fish.  Quite the fishery the big river is.

Jimmy decided he wanted to drift a tube for a bit.  Out came his NRX.  He even swapped hats to make the rod feel good!  Doink! Oink!

Highlight of the day was this double header.  Still wish I had dropped this piggy on a scale…..ah well.  Let her eat a few more Gobies to put on some more weight, if that’s possible!
