Maker a Laker…3 PB’s please.

Open water season is upon us in Eastern Ontario.  The Lund was raring to go!  The winds laid down on the big lake so it was time to go play.

Boat partners for the day were old friends Tony and Ian, these guys are up for anything but love an old fashion fish beatdown as much as anyone.  Lakers were on the docket with high hopes.

I had prepped gear the day before so we were quick to be setup once we came off plane.  Two riggers, two dipsys and two planer boards.  Working water from 30-45 feet we put out a good mixed spread of spoons and sticks.

I decided to have a little fun but loading up my Steelhead rods for the riggers.  We soon realized they were a little over matched for these fish.  Fun but not bright!  We weren’t fully setup and Ian was already all smiles.

That smile turned into a beaming grin when he saw his new PB Laker grace the net.

Tony was up next and landed this beauty.

The rest became a bit of a blur.  Wild action.

We did swap out one of the Steelhead rods out but kept one down.  Woohoo!

It was time for Tony to pop his new PB….done!

Double!

The laughs and smiles were off the charts.  One planer board fell back hard.  I was up and I knew this was no slouch.  This sucka stayed deep the whole way in and wasn’t happy about the situation one bit.  Once I laid eyes on it at the back of the boat it was party time.  New PB Laker for me….make that all of us!

One double header for the boys turned into a triple, then while readying the camera for a photo a fourth rod fired.  Unreal.  The livewell was temporarily stuffed with Lakers!

Just an awesome day on the water with two great buddies.  Tough to beat that.

In the end all equipment worked great, Tekotas and Taloras were flawless and those darn Steelhead rods even earned their keep in the end!
