Two days in the Highlands…

To end the 2013 ice season, Birdee and I decided to join our friends Darren and Sherry on a trip up into the Highlands for some late ice Trout action.  Speckles and Rainbows were on the docket.  What we really wanted to have happen was a few days on relaxation in a beautiful setting with good friends.  We knew that was going to happen!

We left early and enjoyed a traffic free drive, our only encounter along the road was this…

Pretty cool start to the trip!

We arrived and unloaded for the trek in.  We decided to pack light with no shack needed due to a stellar forecast.  A tobaggan was all we needed to lug our stuff.  The trusty Bravo did the trick.

We decided to run setlines only.  We used the Vexilar to find depths but then turned it off and pulled out the lawnchairs!

Birdee was the hole scooper…haha!

We targetted Specks on the first day, hitting the ice around 10 am to blue bird skies and high pressure I knew we were in tough.  It didn’t matter.  The sun was shining, the laughs were flying and a great time was had.

A moment I’ll remember for a long time was while chatting all of a sudden we were joined on the ice by another Moose.  Two moose sightings in a day.  Unreal.

Sherry plucked a beauty out later in the day!

This may explain our lack of fishing success!  hahaha!

That night we enjoyed a nice meal and konked out early, the sunshine did us in.

Next morning it was an earlier start with Rainbows in our sights.

Where are you?????

Darren had his twig and line setup bouncing, ran over and it was game on.

We hung in that area for awhile to no avail.  Decided to move to the sunny side of the lake.

A fruitless move other than to a better tanning location!  haha!

Birdee and Sherry went for a walk up into the Hills to find the old ruins of a Trappers cabin, cool spot.

The group we met up there are just top notch people.  We can’t wait to get back up to spend some more time up there.

In the end it was a great few days for Birdee and I to get away, our schedules are about to get even busier so this few days away was great!
